CAR WASH – THE MUSICAL: Written & Produced by Dimi Sloane, Directed/Choreographed by Otis Sallid, The creator of “Smokey Joe’s Cafe,” tells the story behind a super-music producer/songwriter starting his own record label. The Musical is set in Los Angeles, California, and Hollywood in 1970’s.
The Musical unfolds with the super-music producer/songwriter making a decision develop his own record company. While looking for new artists, an incredible band is brought to his attention whose primary members worked at a Car Wash in the Los Angeles’ Watts neighborhood.
Adding a charismatic female singer, he created the soulful, funky group, Magic Wand. While working on the group’s debut album, he was asked to score a movie and he uses this vehicle to launch the group’s musical career, their path to stardom, and his new company.
The successes and challenges of his genius and his artists’ rise to fame are revealed in the two acts of The Musical. The Musical will feature a dynamic orchestra with special guest players in various markets, performing many of the group’s chart topping hit songs (such as “Car Wash,” “I’m Going Down,” “I Wanna Get Next To You,” “Wishing On A Star,” “Love Don’t Live Here Anymore” as “War (What is it good For),” “Ball of Confusion,” I’m Losing You,” “I Heard it Through the Grapevine,” “Smiling Faces Sometimes,” “Just My Imagination,” “Masterpiece,” and others) are sung live by the show’s ensemble, and performed by its cutting- edge ensemble dancers.
